P.O.T.B.R. 2025 Day 8

I don't know if it's because it felt like we were able to sleep in a little more this morning, or because I managed to go to sleep at a decent time last night, but I actually feel like I slept well. It's cold but I think I figured out how to maintain warm throughout the night with my blanket. We actually got a whole warm breakfast this morning too which was nice. Fresh bacon, eggs, and potatoes and some coffee on a cold morning sounded great. Today was also laundry day so I had to change into the last remaining clothes I had to be able to send the others to wash which, unfortunately, all I had left was a t-shirt and some shorts. At least I still had my blanket to keep me warm.

In the meantime, while our clothes were sent to wash, we had some science work to do. First, we inoculated the Spokane water we forgot to do last time and then we got to work reviewing our previously incubated bio paddles for any bacteria growth. We made note of the type of bacteria grown and then spread the bacteria onto our Nutrient agar for more incubation. We then took our already grown bacteria from our pallets done on Friday and transferred it onto glass panels using the first steps of the Gram Stain Protocol. We also transferred it into the Simmons Citrate Agar as well, something we haven't done before, and sent that to incubate. Using our already grown bacteria pallets, we went through the Oxidase Test Protocol and the Kovac's Reagnt Test Protocol to see if our bacteria came out positive or negative depending on the color outcome. After taking note of our results we moved onto finishing the Gram Stain Protocol with the help of each other. Once the gram stains were done we were finally able to look at the bacteria through the microscope. It's still hard to adjust the lens on the microscope but hopefully I'll be able to figure it out.

Once our laundry came back we were all practically done with our observations, so the majority were sent to go take showers while those who still needed to finish our work stayed behind until they came back. I took the next ride over there, we were given 8 quarters each for a two minute shower. It looked pretty messed up in there, I'm glad I brought slippers. A two minute shower sounds crazy but I think I was able to be quick, it's just the freezing cold water that threw me off. I was told there was only one shower out of the two that gave warm water and I lost that 50/50 guess. 1/10 experience, wouldn't do it again but I have to anyway, I really don't know how people can take cold showers. At least next time I'll know which one has hot water, but even then I heard it's scalding hot water and then freezing, no in-between.
